Question : is it possible to issue an ATEX certificate for the explosion-proof products, having Ex m protection, based on the newly published IEC 60079-18:2025?
Answer : Yes, for the explosion proof products having encapsulation protection (Ex m), according to ATEX directive (2014/34/EU) requirements, it is possible that other than and in addition to the relevant EU harmonized standards (e.g. EN 60079-18), the conformity assessment procedure and subsequent ATEX certification, to be performed based on other harmonized specifications (e.g.IEC 60079-18), therefore:
It is possible to issue the ATEX certificate with referring to IEC 60079-18:2025. in addition to EN 60079-18:2015+A1:2017.
Question : what kind of changes have been made to assessment and certification under the new standard IEC 60079-18:2025?
Answer : the procedure and acceptance condition of type tests remains unchanged in new edition (IEC60079-18:2025), and only limited changes in the definitions and constructional requirements, have been applied.
Question : what steps should holders of ATEX certificates based on the current European standard (EN 60079-18:2015+A1:2017) take to evaluate and obtain new ATEX certificate based on the new IEC 60079-18:2025?
