is marking of an Ex-component required in all cases?
Brief answer: NO
according to the below references, THERE IS NO NEED TO MARK THE EX-COMPONENT:
1. on the basis of IEC 60079-0:2017 (edition n.7):
-
according to clause 29.10, when the enclosure certified and use as Ex-component, shall not be marked externally; and also
-
internal marking may be omitted if the producer of the enclosure, as Ex component, is also the owner of the equipment.
Threfore the unnecessity of marking of Ex components is limited to empty boxes only in the 7th edition of IEC 60079-0.
2. But after Juy 2023, according to the published IECEx decision sheet no. IECEX DS 2023/002 (Marking of Ex Components when intended for use only by their manufacturer):
If the Ex-Component includes the below-mentioned conditions, therefore, EX-Component marking does not require:
1) The Ex-Component is not intended to be offered separately for sale;
2) is solely for integration by the Ex-Component manufacturer into their own Ex Components or Ex Equipment; and
3) The manufacturing location for the Ex-Component and Ex Equipment is under the same quality management system of the same manufacturer, with below considerations:
-
Such an Ex-Component is considered to be a “significant part” as defined in 8.5.2 b) of ISO/IEC 80079-34; and
-
therefore, traceability under the quality management system is required.
Note 1: all of the above conditions must be met in order for the Ex marking of the part to be ignored.
Note 2: below statement should include in the section of marking of the ATEX certificate:
"This Ex-Component has no “Ex” marking as it is not offered separately for sale, but is solely for integration by the Ex-Component manufacturer into their own Ex Components or Ex Equipment.”
Note 3: as the “Marking” section, would not include the “Ex” rating of the Ex-Component, that rating information relevant to the Ex-component, shall be included in the position the Ex-marking of whole “Equipment” is placed.
Note 4: an additional below paragraph was added to 29.10 in the upcoming Edition 8 of IEC 60079-0 (now in draft version):
“The marking for any Ex-Component may be omitted if the Ex-Component manufacturer is intended to be the holder of an Ex-Equipment certificate employing the Ex-Component, and is indicated as such in the Schedule of Limitations of the Ex-Component certificate.”
